Featuring a conversation with YASHASWINI ANGIRAS, Author of The Spring Cologne.

Q. Hey Yashaswini! We’ve been following you for a while now and love seeing your aesthetic pictures and poems popup on our feed. How did you discover your art of being a writer or to keep up with your passion of photography?

A. Hey! “So i was always fascinated by how people create art and love doing it.” I am a singer by upbringing. I can sing and listen to songs all day and the creation of it, is what motivates me to express my self in the form of words. Writing comes from my heart, the ideas and imagination that you see in my poems, is everything concluded in the form of my dreams and reality. Moving the reel of life to past, It was 2016, when i started my first blogger website named “the daily bliss”. The whole journey of what i am today started from that single day and i am never not thankful for the ones in the back who motivated me. Years later i realised that i can sing and write all day in order to do what i want genuinely and perform my absolute best. And so after years of learning and writing, I released my debut book in the beginning of 2020 during the pandemic. And then developed into a deeper interest of reading and writing more, listening to songs and capturing the moment, like you call “my aesthetics”. Yet again, feeling my best. I see beauty in everything and that is where my aesthetic photography comes from. Its not that i capture on purpose, but something that interests me. In my views, every single thing is aesthetic and that is the underlying feeling of where i find all my inspiration from. People see and call me an all rounder, where in i believe who isn’t? Every one to me is an all rounder, its just on how you learn and practice the art for yourself. Every one is a Creator, and this point reveals all the secrets of where my creation comes from.

Q. What is your favourite quote.

A. My favourite quote is :

“You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore”

Side story: “so one day, i saw this quote by André Gide, on my instagram explore page and i am dunked into her words ever since.”

Q. You’re also a student. How do you balance your work with your busy college schedule at consequent and fluid form?

A. On a very personal level it has become habitual that i am a PROCRASTINATOR, when it comes to submitting my college assignments. I am always late as i am very busy with my work life instead. But i don’t like skipping my classes though, and that is the reason i began following a schedule to keep up with everything that goes on in my work as well as in my student life. I truly believe that you cannot force things up. When it has to it gets done any how. It is quite challenging but again it is what it is. To reveal a secret, even if when i am not creating the art physically, i am a thinker, i keep visualising about my next projects and how to manage everything. So you can say i also create art, subconsciously and that is what motivates me to keep going.

Q. Yashaswini, you have written in your instagram bio that you are a designer as well. What type of designs are that you make. Or What exactly draws you to design?

A. Design is something that’s in my blood i would say. I am a graphic designer & always aware of what i want to create specifically to make everything around me look artsy and beautiful. If you give me an alphabet, i can make it look aesthetic according to your choice. I have this small art studio at my friend’s place where we think upon and create visual designs for different brands and artists. We know what we want to create and are very genre specific. From endless logos, print layouts, digital posters, magazine/book covers, flyers, collages, newsletters to t-shirt designs... we create all of it (from heart) & call it an adventure.

Q. What is your aesthetic exactly?

A. So my aesthetic is simplicity. You will always find me listening to soft music with a slice of romance and positivity in it. Like currently i can’t stop listening to, tapestry by BRUNO MAJOR. Even when i am reading a book, i will always turn the music on. With the slow violin playing in the background, and candles on my desk... a whole vibe. Other than this, i am always influenced by the 90s era of rock and sweet with a vintage and beige combination or you may say i am colour specific to the pastel and the tints.

Q. Tell us about your projects of the year?

A. Since we are doing this interview before my book release!!! SO THAT IS THE BIGGEST THING HAPPENING THIS YEAR. THE SPRING COLOGNE is going to be out on 27th march 2021, on my dream date of love and positivity. More over, there is a spoiler alert for all my readers that I am planning to release a little something for them. Hint is 3 pearls and 60 colours. And this is all i can reveal for now, and i would say — keeping secrets is the power i hold in my palms closely until the salt breaks off the earth-side haha.

Q. WHO INSPIRES YOU?

A. There is a big-big list of the people who inspire me to create my art. It begins with my family, i am so grateful to have them all. Especially my mother, she is the reason i am here and doing what i like. Her endless support from day one, is what makes me, who i am today. And my best friends are the most creative people i get to do my life with. A special mention for my girl gang who cheer me up all the time. And some of the authors being - Rupi Kaur, Morgan Harper Nichols, Nikita Gill, William Shakespeare, Andre Gide, Ivan Nuru, and Rumi. And some artists/singers/song writers being- My father and Ariana Grande, BTS, Taylor swift, Billie Eilish, Neil Young, Harry styles, Bruno major. And last but not the least, a playlist i made of all the artists that led a way to the creation of my latest book, i love them all so much.

Q. To sum up, this beautiful conversation with you... tell us about your favourite excerpt from your upcoming book, THE SPRING COLOGNE?

A. In all honesty, this excerpt is very special to my heart, as i wrote it, on a very special day of when we celebrate women, the strength of the world. And It says —

“If you go to the museum today, you will see a woman ~ dancing with waves, composing her sonnets and fashioning art. Coiled up in creating poems; crest of the hill, so smooth; her scars velvet and sea so blue, that the moonlight comes from a broken sky. For she is; who i am. She is you. Healing, Singing, waving, moving - a brown feminine, rowing her own boat from birth to eternity; singing songs to painting her rainbows, much like lighting - a dying fire. (To all the women, I know & get to do my life with... pour some love in your cup of tea today!”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Yashaswini Angiras is a nineteen-year-old Indian poet who has curated two books with the goal of translating her heart’s language to her readers. Her most recent book “The spring cologne” calls you to a land dwelling in profound experiences which heartens you to incline through your soul and choose your art in all the seasons regardless; because she firmly believes in creating without boundaries and says “the way we love the vulnerability of our dreams and choices; is when we outpour vibrant colors to achieve the unexpected”

ABOUT THE BOOK: divided into her three sections - fall, rebirth and spring; this collection is so many things: With dancing words laying on soil, her salt openings to the sweetener wind ups. With feeling present and inhaling more colours; her spring pages not only explore the fall and her rebirth but also the love, grief, life, holiness, prayers and creativity; twirling in and through; with the art of her words. The author is deeply in love with what she poured forth in these spring pages – and says “this book is my story that I am giving you to read. This book is an assemblage of my vulnerability and fears, beauty and laughter and its all for you to read and feel. If I could, I would have read this entire book to you over a cup of coffee but since I can’t, I want you to read this and think about yourself in these verses. “let me travel through the time, when loving you was not a mistake.” In this verse of “fall”. The author owns up to her new vision of the broken and the healed inviting you, to feel the romantic muse; sown in so many tears and blood and trials and errors and heart and hope and revival. With the gentle zephyr; tying knots to the beauty of the second chance, echoing, sending and making – the beauty of “agains. To feel , dance, cherish, kiss, pray, believe and love again; the author welcomes you to your own spring cologne.
